New Spectacle # New China Optician

Well, I think that people who know me would probably guess that most sales personnel will not serve me when I stepped into a shop. Sad but true. Some may think that I looked too fierce, other may think that I will not have enough money to purchase any of their products or services. Undoubtedly, these were all true a few years back. However, it is no longer truth.

Yes, I had a hard time finding a spectacle shop with a salesperson who are willing to explain their products to me. I visited all seven optical shop in Jurong Point. Only Optical88 had a salesperson for me, yet she doesn't know what to recommend to me. So how did she serve me? She just followed me around every corner of the store quietly. I should be glad right, at least, someone bothered to follow me around. The rest did not even respond when I asked if I could take a look at their frames. Why did I choose Jurong Point? Reasons are simple, I want convenience and it is the nearest to my workplace and my home so the collection will probably be a breeze.

Since I was not able to get any spectacle in Jurong Point (such a huge shopping mall), I recalled an old optical shop in Plaza Singapura. I only visited there once when I was still schooling. I did not have much money, and the optician there was nice enough to make me a spectacle which cost less than SGD 60. I should have gone there in the first place, why was I digging for gold in Jurong Point?

I visited uncle Tony today at New China Optician @ Plaza Singapura.
[Direction: Cityhall MRT station, exit B. Turn left upon exit and cross to your right at the first traffic junction. Building is just behind Funan Digital Mall.]

The first thing I realised was the shop was relocated to #01-11. It used to be at B1-12. I was surprised to find a bigger shop front with more variety of frames for you to choose. At around 11.15pm, his shop was already filled with three customers. However, he still took the little time he had to greet me. He had to serve them so I took my time to look around for the frame I want. How I wish I brought my camera along. There were so many interesting frames and you will never be bored of them. Some brands I recalled were Tony Harder, Coach, Braun Bruffel, Silhoutte, Nike, Puma, Elle, Guess and their own New China Optician brand. There were more but I did not have super memory to memorise all of them in a short span of time.

After my eye check, I was told that the degree of my right eye had increased (thought to myself: oh damn!). However, the good thing was he said I did not have astigmatism and shouldn't not be wearing my old spectacle any more. Good grief, if only I know.  We had a short chat about my recent trip to Taiwan throughout the eye check.

I found a rimless frame which I like, however, he recommended a half rim frame which is similar to my old spectacle. Well, I kind of regret not choosing a rimless frame (since I did not own one before). I was told to come back in 30 minutes for the spectacles. Yes, just 30 minutes and not the usual two to three days.

My new Puma spectacles
I got it today! My very first Puma spectacles. Even though Tony told me that it might take a few days for me to get used to the increased degree, I find the spectacles comfortable already. I have been wearing it since I got it, no dizziness at all. Orginal cost for frame and lens: SGD 168. However, he sold it to me at a discounted price, SGD 150.

With the Puma logo
Not forgetting the case too
As if I am not satisfied with their superb service, I received a Christmas present too!! Well, you may probably see that as a marketing collateral but I felt better after being ignored by so many sales personnels in Jurong Point.

Power bank!!
Yes, it is their 90 years anniversary in 2015. SG50 too, what a coincidence!
Cable default option: Andriod phones e.g. Samsung, Sony, LG
If you have an iPhone: No fret, there is an adapter too.
Their signature picture!
I must say that uncle Tony really know how to please his customers and retain them for future sales. If there is anyone asking me for an optical shop recommendation, I will not think twice to recommend New China Optician. Afterall, the service is great, the price is extremely reasonable and it is unlikely you will regret your purchase at all!
